Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Awards Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Dr. Arthur Anderson as Citizen of the Year

West Palm Beach, Fla. - December 26, 2007 - Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Dr. Arthur Anderson was recently recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, in West Palm Beach, Fla. The award was presented to Dr. Anderson during Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s National Achievement Week, which was themed “Three Looks, One Focus: Family-Fraternity-Friendship.” 

Dr. Anderson was elected Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections in August 2004, making him the first African-American elected to a constitutional office in the county. He was also the first African-American to serve as Chairman of the Palm Beach County School Board and the first African-American to serve on the Florida Prepaid Post Secondary Education Finance Board. He is affiliated with several community organizations and was recently elected as president of the Palm Beach County Caucus of Black Elected Officials for 2007-2008. SUCCESS Magazine named him as one of the 50 Most Powerful & Influential Black Professionals in South Florida. Dr. Anderson has received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Distinguished Professor Award from Florida Atlantic University College of Education. Dr. Anderson received his bachelor’s in Elementary Education and his master’s in Guidance and Counseling from Wayne State University. He earned his doctorate in Higher Education Administration, Institutional Research and Student Personnel from Michigan State University.

“It is such an honor to be recognized by the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,” said Dr. Anderson. “I am very fortunate to be recognized by such a wonderful organization dedicated to the four cardinal principles of our great fraternity: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift.” 

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity began in 1911 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was chartered in 1951, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has become an international fraternity with thousands of Brothers across America and other countries. The Kappa Upsilon Chapter has contributed thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to local students during the past fifty years.
